Therapeutic glucocorticoids are used in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) to reduce inflammation and bone destruction. We recently reported that primary synovial fibroblasts generate active glucocorticoids via expression of 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11β-HSD1).
